DC is diving into the middle of summer with its now fully revealed July solicitations, which kick off thebig DC summer event Absolute Power, and a whole lot more.
Speaking of Absolute Power, in that major crossover event, which brings in Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and most of the DC Universe, Amanda Waller will team-up with the Brainiac Queen and Batman enemy Failsafe to steal the powers of all the metahumans on Earth.
Also in July, the third part of the Superman Superstars initiative, which brings in all-star creative teams for short arcs, will continue in Action Comics with the arrival ofwriter Gail Simone and artist Eddy Barrows for an “epic tale of Superman’s strength, wit, and resourcefulness"as he fights off an alien invasion.
Also in July,Batman: Death in the Family: Robin Lives! will explore what the DC Universe might have been like if Jason Todd, the second Robin, had lived oninstead of dying in the original ’80s story, with a new tale from writer JM DeMatteis and artist Rick Leonardi.
Editor’s NoteEditor’s NoteWill SalmonComics EditorYou might have noticed that DC have a big event coming out in July. We previewed the titles involved in Absolute Power earlier this week and it’s safe to say that this thing is absolutelymassive. We’ve highlighted a couple of the key issues in our monthly picks, so I’m gonna use this brief editor’s note to pick out a few other titles of note this month.Fans of the Clown Prince of Crime have a real treat on their hands with The Joker: The World. This 184-page book features a starry cast of creatives from around the globe telling stories about one of - if notthe- greatest comic book villains of all time. Then there’s the conclusion of Red Hood: The Hill limited series. Shawn Martinbrough has scripted a fascinatingly layered and gritty story here and I can’t wait to read the conclusion. Finally, there’s an anniversary reprint of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s brilliant, heartbreaking We3, and The Boy Wonder reaches its third issue. We’ve been lucky enough to have already read the first two issues of this gorgeous story and, trust us, Juni Ba has created something really special here. Keep an eye out for the first issue when it publishes in May. Until next month, happy reading!
